How to Record a Screen Activity on Windows 10 Without any Application

If your computer is running on the famous Windows 10 Operating System, then you must have noticed that there are lots of features which seems not to be available. Funny thing is, this operating system is packed with every, if not all features you wish you had on a computer. One of such features is the screen recording tool which you can use to record your activities while using your computer. My guess is, you never knew Windows 10 could record videos of on-screen activities.

The Windows 10 screen recorder is not a standalone utility, so if you decide to search through the Start Menu, you won’t find it. This utility is part of the Xbox app that comes installed by default in Windows 10. Built into the Game bar, the screen recorder was basically designed to record games you play directly on your PC or those you stream from an Xbox One, but can be used to do just more than that.

How to Log Into Windows 10 Without a Keyboard Hardware

To record any screen activity on Windows 10 without the need of an application, here is what to do;

  • On your keyboard, simultaneously hit Windows Key + G. Note that this wont work on the computer desktop screen. You need to be on an opened installed application before pressing the keys.
  • A pop out will appear from the right corner of your computer screen. Check the box for Yes, this is a game. If nothing happens when you press the Windows Key + G, check your Game bar settings to enable the Game Bar. You can learn How to Enable Game Bar on Windows 10 by clicking Here.

  • Doing the above will automatically display the Game Bar which you can use to either take screenshots of your present screen or record your activities on the screen. Click on the record button to begin recording.

  • Once the record has began, you can stop by clicking on the blue button by the top right corner of your screen.

By default, all your recordings and captures are saved on your computer at Videos\Captures which i still have not found a way to change. So to view your recordings and captures, just go to that location.

Easy Access shortcuts:

Since you passed the first stage by checking the box for Yes, this is a game, you will not have to check the box again when ever you want to record activities you perform on the application. Once you hit the Windows Key + G on your keyboard, the Game Bar will automatically appear and you can beginning recording or taking screenshots.

A list of shortcuts to be used on Windows 10 Game Bar to record/capture screen are as follows;

  • To record your screen activities without the need to open the Game Bar, simply press Windows Key + Alt + R
  • To take screen shots without opening the Game Bar, simultaneously press Windows Key + Alt + Prtscr
  • To show recording timer, press Windows Key + Alt + T
  • To turn on/off microphone, press Windows Key + Alt + M
