Microsoft Word which is one of the Microsoft Office packages is invariably among the most important program on every computer today. Whether your computer is running the latest version of the program or not, the truth remains that you just can’t do without it. If you own a computer (business) center as it is popularly called here in Nigeria or maybe you work as an accountant, then you must have been faced with situations where you needed to add the Nigerian monetary symbol (₦). The question on how to add the Naira symbol in popular programs like Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel have been lingering on the internet for a very long time that I decided to put up something on it.

Today, I will be showing you guys how to add and make use of the Naira symbol on Microsoft Word without having to install any additional hardware or software on your PC. Although there are now customized computer keyboards like the Koyin keyboard which have the symbol already included among its features, learning to add the Naira symbol in Microsoft Word can really come in handy especially when you are using a keyboard which has not been customized to include the Nigerian monetary symbol.

If you are having issues inputting the Naira symbol when using Microsoft Word, then follow the step below to learn how to do so. There are basically two methods via which this can be achieved:

Method 1:

  • While typing and you want to insert the symbol, type in the letter upper case of the letter ‘N’.

  • On the font pop-up page, check the box for Double Strikethrough. This will make the ‘N‘ symbol have a double strike-through making it appear like the Naira symbol.

Method 2:

This method to me is the easiest. Whenever you want to add the Naira symbol while typing, just type in 20A6 and simultaneously press Alt + X on your keyboard. Doing this will automatically add a Naira symbol which appears better than the one achieved using the above method.
